Kentucky Darkroom and Studio Memberships

Hey There!!!

Thanks for your interest in the Magic that is the “Kentucky Darkroom BUNCH!”The “Kentucky Darkroom BUNCH” is the LIMITED, membership-based association of film-fanatic-folks creating magical images developed and/or printed in the “Kentucky Darkroom” located just off Nicholasville Rd and Lowery Lane in Lexington KY.

To be one of the amazing and talented Darkroom BUNCH,  we have two monthly Full Membership plans; Platinum, which allows unlimited weekday and weekend access to the Darkroom, and Silver which allows weekday, building-open-hours-only access.  These are outlined below.  The membership dues are payable on or before the first of each month and require a 6 or 12-month commitment. There is also a “Member Assistant” Membership for the darkroom covered below.

Non-BUNCH folks cannot rent the Darkroom at this time, but we may open that up later after we see the usage patterns.  We will offer an open house each month as “teasers” for non-members.

You will be invoiced for your membership thru Waze Accounting System. Invoices may take a few days to be issued.

Here’s a breakdown of the obviously feature-filled membership costs.

Join In!!

Membership Cost paid monthly Paid six months Paid one year
Platinum (darkroom and studio) $45 $256 $486
Silver (darkroom only) $30 $170 $340
Member Assistant (darkroom only) $10 $54 $96

The “Member Assistant Membership” is for a person who wants to help a Member do processing/printing. They must have taken the Darkroom Orientation Workshop and may not access the darkroom without a full Platinum or Silver Member. Member Assistants can also be charged per session to the Member they accompany rather than the monthly, semi-annual, or annual Membership. Members should note the Member Assistant who helped them on the Occupancy Checklist. Member Assistant access on a per-session basis is $10 each session and will be added to the Member’s first-of-the-month invoice. The Platinum or Silver member is responsible for the actions of their Assistant.

Of course, you want to know what you get and the difference between the two Full Memberships.
Very Cool!

Other great features for you!

■ Available Nitril gloves, eye protection, and 36″ aprons, if desired… free.

■ Wireless internet access (Slowish, but usable, login posted in the darkroom)

■ Use of the basic computer and Photoshop

■ As noted above, the ability to scan negatives with an Epson ProScan or our 35mm negative scanner (we do medium and large format digitizing too,) and print (fee-based) with a Canon Pixma-Pro 100, dye-based printer, up to 13″ x 19″, color or mono. Printing rates are posted at the printer, and paper is stocked below the printer. The scanner may also be used to scan prints or other personal documents by members.

■ Most darkroom-specific workshops are either free or 50% off to the BUNCH. (lab fees full price.) Externally taught workshops are discounted based on the workshop.

■ Permission to cache a beer or two (but no more or so, hmmm) in the fridge for enhancing the creative juices (or developing film, yes, developing film!  Attend the class!)

■ Inclusion in the ongoing art exhibit (curated by Kentucky Darkroom Administrators) in the main hall and in other galleries as available (See  Gallery Exhibitions)

■ Monthly “gathering” of the BUNCH for the hanging of new work, networking, and planning gallery open houses!

■ Members may have one non-member in the darkroom with them for assistance or for free education if that person has taken the “Darkroom Orientation.” We suggest the “Team” approach of Darkroom use.

NOTE:
ALL users, including new BUNCH members, must take the “Kentucky Darkroom Orientation” workshop prior to joining in. This will not only familiarize you with the equipment, but let you know our full equipment inventory, chemistry, procedures, requirements, and processes to ensure a darkroom that is safe, secure, clean, efficient, and a great place for all. A commitment to join offers a 50% discount from the $30.00 workshop that will be required for the General Public if and when we open it up.

If the BUNCH is fully subscribed, you can get on the waiting list. We limit the number of members to assure that the BUNCH members have access to the darkroom during the hours they want. This, along with the benefits above, and our costs (see more below,) is why we have a monthly membership.

Come join us, if there’s room!!!

We love doin’ it, the old, beautiful, analog, photography film way!!!
All potential Kentucky Darkroom Bunch members must supply state-provided photo identification, credit or debit card in hand in the member’s name, and sign and agree to the “Kentucky Darkrooms’s Terms and Conditions of Darkroom Usage” and our basic application.   The first payment of the “key” deposit (platinum member) and membership must be made by the mentioned credit or debit card.   Subsequent payments may be by payment through the invoicing system or Domino’s pizza gift cards. Ooooooh yeah!  Membership is subject to approval by the management of the Kentucky Darkroom and is offered at their final discretion.   Membership fees help cover the cost of the scheduling software, insurance, rent, Adobe membership, gallery catalog, gallery open house costs, and more.   We require 60 days’ notice to terminate membership. There are no refunds for canceled memberships that were pre-paid.  Kentucky Sales Tax is applied to memberships.
